WBHOF inducts 12th class into hall

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame inducted six new members Saturday night. The ceremony took place in downtown Knoxville at the Tennessee Theater.

Leta Andrews, Teresa Edwards, Rebecca Lobo, Gloria Ray, Teresa Weatherspoon, and Chris Weller were are part of the 12th class to be inducted into the hall of fame.

Andrews is the winningest high school girls' basketball coach in the country. Her record at Granbury High School (Texas) is 1,312-282.

Edwards is the most decorated player in the history of USA basketball, male or female. She's won three gold medals and a bronze in five Olympics. She played her college basketball at Georgia, where she was a two-time Kodak All-American. Edwards led Georgia to two Final Fours and three SEC titles.

Lobo was an All-American at Connecticut. She led the Huskies to their first national championship in 1995. Lobo was the 1995 Wade Trophy winner and Naismith Player of the Year.

Ray, a Knoxville native, spearheaded the drive to get the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville. She was also the first women's athletic director at the University of Tennessee. Ray currently serves and president and CEO of the Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation.

Weatherspoon was a standout player with Louisiana Tech. She led the Lady Techsters to the 1988 national championship. She was also one of the original players of the WNBA, where she was a four-time all star. Weatherspoon is currently the head coach at Louisiana Tech.

Weller guided Maryland to three Final Fours, eight Elite Eights, 10 Sweet Sixteens and eight ACC championships. She became just the fifth Division I coach to earn at least 400 wins at one school.
