Heather Haley is a Volunteer TV Weather Specialist/Reporter.
One of the best parts of my life is Knoxville. You see, I grew up here. Born and raised in Knoxville! But I never really appreciated what a wonderful city, small town combination this area really is. We are all so lucky to have it all here in East Tennessee. We have the wonderful outdoors, everything that city life can bring, and of course UT Football!
I went to UT, so I'm ALL VOL! As I really got into my education at UT, I remembered my infatuation with TV news. Every morning of my childhood, I would wake up groggy and grumpy and crawl out of my bed and right back into mom and dad's. There, every single morning, I would watch the morning news. I was fascinated with all the information, all that was going on in the world, and the fact that I could get so much in one place. So that's when I decided to major in Journalism and Electronic Media, broadcasting basically. My other passion in school was theater. I have always enjoyed theater, watching and being involved.
While I was in school, I quickly developed a respect for WVLT. I always enjoyed their newscasts and of course their people. So I interned here for a year. I learned so much and felt so welcomed by everyone. So I knew one day I wanted to work here, but first I had to learn the ropes for myself. I went to our sister station WYMT in Hazard, Kentucky for a little more than 2 years. Like I mentioned, I had never left Knoxville, but I wouldn't change my job choice for the world. I made some of the greatest friends and learned so much there, not to mention the people all across Eastern Kentucky are some of the greatest. I've come to the conclusion that Southerners really are some of the nicest people in the world!
I am married to my best friend from college. Steven and I met working at the Copper Cellar on the Strip while getting through college. He's also from here. He grew up in South Knoxville, and went to South Doyle. I moved back and started at WVLT May 21st, 2008 and was married June 20Th. What a month! Started a new job, married, and moved into a new house all in one month! We now have 2 dogs for kids, a teacup Poodle named Coconut and a Husky named Gambit.
In my time off, I love going to church and playing with the dogs. I enjoy sitting down and being creative, whether that is scrap-booking or sewing. And I love do-it-yourself projects! I am all about trying out anything, and seeing if I can do it too.
