CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Thieves have stolen two Chattanooga parking meters that take donations for the homeless, just days after they were installed.
The meters allow pedestrians to donate their loose change to charities that help the homeless.
They are supposed to discourage handouts to panhandlers.
Karen McMahon, who manages the program, says the meters are being reinforced to prevent further theft.
Money from the program goes to several groups, including the Salvation Army and the United Way of Greater Chattanooga.
