ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- The Greek island of Lesbos wants its identity back.

Three islanders are taking a gay rights group to court because it uses the word "lesbian" in its name.

One says the group called the Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece "insults the identity" of the people of Lesbos, who are also known as Lesbians.

He complained that his sister "can't say she is a Lesbian."

Lesbos is home of the ancient poet Sappho, who praised love between women. It is a popular vacation spot for gay women.

The plaintiffs say they're suing the association because it's the only officially registered gay group in Greece to use the word lesbian in its name.

A spokeswoman for the group says the lawsuit is "a joke in bad taste that borders on discrimination."

The case is set for a June hearing.
