Nashville (AP) -- Metro Police are reviewing policies for identifying fugitives after they jailed the wrong man for three weeks.

Thirty-five-year-old Tommie Lee Rice was arrested December 15 in Nashville for driving without a license.

Because his name appeared to match that of a sex offender wanted in Maryland, he was held in jail over the holidays.

Maryland had sent fingerprints of the real fugitive to Nashville but police never compared them to Rice's prints.

The mistake was not discovered until after Rice had been extradited to Maryland.

Metro police say cases like this are extremely rare.

Department spokesman Don Aaron said the Warrants Office is doing a total review of what went wrong to prevent it from recurring in the future.
