UNDATED (CBS/ WCSC-TV) -- Almost 20 years ago, a 14-year-old girl in Ohio wrote a letter to a soldier overseas.

This month they were married in Charleston.

"After writing that first letter i never dreamed it would be so wonderful," Jaime gushes.

When Jaime Benefit was just 14, her mom saw an ad in the paper to support our troops by writing a soldier overseas in desert storm.

"So she pulled that out for me and I took it and wrote any soldier,"
Jaime recalls.

But not just any soldier got here letter. Pfc. Jeremy Clayton says he picked hers out of a pile of thousands because of the way she spelled "Jaime."

"I liked that she wrote in green ink i thought that was neat as well,"
Jeremy states.

The two became pen pals, corresponding week after week, sharing stories, and pictures.

Then in late 1990, the letters stopped.

"When we started the ground war we had to destroy all our letters in case we were capture," Jeremy remembers.

Jeremy did hide 2 letters from Jaime. And Jaime packed her letters up in a box. Where they'd stay for almost 20 years. Until this January.

"My parents were remodeling my room and said 'hey Jaime, come out you have old boxes,' So I went through and saw them and instantly knew what they were," she says.

But she didn't know what happened to Jeremy. So she contacted the Department of Defense for information. With no luck.

Finally she got on FaceBook to find him and looked at all the pictures of Jeremy Clayton, trying to recognize the camouflage painted face from a picture 20 years ago.

"It was just in the eyes. I knew it was him so I sent a message, 'were you in desert storm?' she says.

He remembered her immediately. And later that week they spoke on the phone for the very first time.

"It was like we'd always known each other," Jaime says.

"I told myself I have to spend the rest of my life with this woman,"
Jeremy states.

She flew in to see Jeremy in March. By May, she moved from Ohio to Charleston. And they were married in July.

From pen pals...To husband and wife.

The Claytons have been married....for 2 weeks.

They say writing real letters is what brought them together, so ....they still scribble love notes to each other.
