UNDATED (WVLT) -- It would appear Ryne Sandberg will be an East Tennessee resident for another year.
According to MLB.com, Cubs' general manager Jim Hendry says he expects Sandberg to be with the Tennessee Smokies in 2010.
When the Web site asked current Cubs' manager Lou Piniella about the possibility of Sandberg being named his replacement, Piniella said "I'm not the one who's going to be hiring the next manager here, but certainly, he'll be in the mix."
Piniella's contract with the Cubs expires after the 2010 season.
Sandberg is a hall of famer that played 15 seasons with the Cubs. This past season was his first with the Smokies. He guided the club to the Southern League championship series.
A call to the Smokies was not returned Sunday night.
