(WVLT) -- Former Tennessee forward Duke Crews will transfer to Bowie State, a Division II school in Maryland, according to a press release from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, of which Bowie State is a member.
Crews also considered Pittsburgh and Charlotte; however, because he chose a DII school, he will not have to sit out a year.
"We are very excited to have Crews as part of the BSU program," Bowie State men's head basketball coach Luke D'Alessio said in a press release. "(He) is an excellent student-athlete that we have great faith in and he will be an excellent addition to our institution. We've had three All-Americans to play at BSU and we expect (Crews) to be the fourth."
D'Alessio also called Crews a "diamond in the rough."
Crews was dismissed from the Tennessee basketball team last May along with point guard Ramar Smith. Head coach Bruce Pearl said at the time that the dismissal was in the best interest of both parties.
Crews averaged 5.4 points and four rebounds per game for Tennessee last year.
