(Sports Overtime) -- Tuesday night, Southern California head coach Pete Carroll gave an overwhelming endorsement for Lane Kiffin as Tennessee's new head football coach.

"It's great opportunity for him," Carroll told the Los Angeles media. "It's a great, historic program. He understands the history of it, and respects it very much so. He's gonna try to carry on the great style and history that they've had there."

Kiffin coached under Pete Carroll for six seasons. He was the Trojans' offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator in 2005 and 2006.
