NWS confirms tornado touchdown Wednesday in Fentress

JAMESTOWN, Tenn (WVLT) -- The National Weather Service confirms an EF1 tornado touched down Wednesday afternoon in Fentress County.

The twister touched down and caused damage along a path about 1/4 of a mile long, on Little Hurricane Trail at Highway 62.

That's near the Clarkrange community in southern Fentress County

The NWS says the storm had maximum winds of 90 miles per hour.

Based on radar, the tornado likely touched down around 2:05 p.m. central time, and stayed on the ground for a minute or less.

"It touched down, then lifted, then down and back up," Fentress County EMA Director Jeff Galloway said.

Dozens of pine trees and a few hardwood trees were snapped or uprooted. Two homes and a few cars were damaged.

EF0 tornadoes have wind speeds of 86 to 110 miles per hour.
