NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- After a weekend during which summer heat was tempered by rain, Tennessee is heating up again as August begins.

The National Weather Service has issue a heat advisory for all of West Tennessee, effective until noon Wednesday, then upgraded to an excessive heat watch that runs through Thursday evening.

Forecasters predict highs of at least 100 degrees from Monday through Thursday at Memphis. The coming weekend will be only a couple of degrees cooler.

Nashville won't be far behind, with a predicted high Monday in the mid-90s, but then upper 90s readings on tap for midweek.

Chattanooga also will have readings in the mid- to upper 90s, while Knoxville should top out in the mid-90s later this week and the Tri-Cities will have high highs mostly in the lower 90s.
